SPEEDY TRIAL: The trial court erred by denying the defendants motion to dismiss the charges against him when the state failed to bring him to trial within the applicable 30-day statutory period: although R.C. 2945.72(H) provides that the speedy-trial time may be extended when the state requests a reasonable continuance, the magistrate in the mayors court did not state the reason for the continuance in the courts journal; because of this failure, there was no basis for determining whether the continuance was reasonable, and, therefore, the time attributable to the continuance was chargeable to the state.

Donald Anthony Walker Young, 40, embezzled the money from investors from the firm he founded and ran in Kennett Square, Pa., from 1999 to 2009, federal officials have said. He had been scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia but requested and was granted a 30-day continuance, according to information posted on the federal court's website.
