Regarding the June 22 My View, "Santa Fe disappoints on so many levels" by Valerie Dryka: I don't know where Ms. Dryka lived before she moved here, but she seems to have arrived with considerable baggage.
Santa Fe is not some sort of Disneyland "adventure" town that exists solely for the purpose of entertaining its inhabitants. Santa Fe, like any other town, is a place that is defined by its people, and clearly Ms. Dryka has confined her "complaint" letter about our town to various consumer transactions (shopping, bill paying, etc.) instead of really getting to know her neighbors, or involving herself in meaningful activity. Incidentally, I think most everyone would enjoy having a merchant fix an incorrect bill over the telephone on the caller's say-so instead of having to write letters...

The attorney for the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Utah sent a letter of complaint to the Utah Attorney General's Office Friday, stating the organization will take legal action if the state continues its "apparent desire to destroy" the agency.
The Utah Division of Consumer Protection -- the subject of the attorney's complaint -- declined to comment on the letter Friday. However, division director Francine Giani said discussions between the two parties are continuing, and that it is giving the Salt Lake- based debt management agency "every opportunity to demonstrate its viability.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Consumer Watchdog applauded the U.S. Justice Department today for filing a civil antitrust complaint to block the AT&T/T-Mobile Merger, calling it a victory for cell phone consumers, and urged the Federal Communications Commission to reject the deal as well.
Earlier this month, Consumer Watchdog wrote a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Communications Commission, and the California Public Utilities Commission, pointing out that the very same promises of better services and cheaper prices that AT&T makes today it also made back in 2004, when it sought permission to merge with Cingular, only to betray those promises after federal officials approved the deal.

In this document, the Commission adopts rules that implement provisions of section 104 of the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA), Public Law 111-260, the most significant accessibility legislation since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. A Proposed Rule relating to implementation of section 718 of the Communications Act of 1934, as enacted by the CVAA, is published elsewhere in this issue of the Federal Register. This proceeding amends the Commission's rules to ensure that people with disabilities have access to the incredible and innovative communications technologies of the 21st-century. These rules are significant and necessary steps towards ensuring that the 54 million Americans with disabilities are able to ...

In a recent investigation of consumer complaining, Bolkan and Daly (2007) found that consumer complaints were mitigated by organizational response types (excuses, justifications, and apologies) and their components (believability, appropriateness, consideration, and accepting responsibility). What remained to be explained was if organizations' remediation tactics differed in the minds of consumers of services and products. The current study sought to determine if consumers of services and products differ in their perceptions of organizational remediation messages. Results showed two major patterns reoccurred throughout. First, assuming responsibility was less important for service-based failures than it was for product-based failures. Second, alleviating negativity was easier to do for ...
