Carolinas AGC Construction Barometer(TM) Down 0.8%
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Carolinas AGC Construction Barometer(TM), reflecting first quarter 2011, shows very little change in the construction industry in both North Carolina and South Carolina. The aggregate Barometer score declined a modest 0.8 percent on slightly stronger business conditions observed across the first three months of 2011, offset by falling contractor expectations about future business conditions and rising wholesale prices.

That was the opening sentence from a letter that was sent to President Obama and congressional leaders on Dec. 7 and signed by 45 design and construction industry associations. But it could have been sent to almost every American. At a time when unemployment in the design and construction industry is at 13.4 percent, it is no surprise that nearly one in 10 American workers is out of a job. According to the New York Building Congress, employment in the construction industry is down 19 percent in New York.

This study developed quality performance indices for the Taiwanese bicycle component manufactory industry. After extensively studying the current Taiwanese quality assessments, NQA, and performing in-depth interviews with relevant experts, we developed 33 quality performance indices. The methodology used here, Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), handled the input of prior quality performance indices. We found that the Taiwanese bicycle component manufactory industry needed to concentrate on the top five indices due to limited organization resources.
