Residents in regions north of Pittsburgh could see a "triple play" phone, Internet and TV offer by early next year from the Illinois-based telecommunications company that moved a step closer Tuesday to acquiring North Pittsburgh Systems Inc.
Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc. has about 11,000 subscribers so far for its all-digital Internet protocol, or IPTV, service in its Illinois and Texas markets, said Joseph R. Dively, senior vice president. Consolidated could start IPTV in North Pittsburgh's service areas soon after the Richland-based company becomes its wholly owned subsidiary, he said.

Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc., which owns phone networks north of Pittsburgh and other local businesses, reported an 11 percent drop in first-quarter net income to $3.3 million, or 11 cents a share.
The results compare to $3.7 million, or 13 cents, a year ago. Revenue was down 4 percent to $101.7 million.

Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc. reported a $3.64 million fourth-quarter profit, or 11 cents a share, compared to a loss a year ago of $1.03 million, or 4 cents.
The Mattoon, Ill., company that acquired the former North Pittsburgh Systems Inc. as of Jan. 1, 2008, said revenue from the quarter totaled $102.7 million, compared to $85 million in the year- ago period.

North Pittsburgh Systems Inc.'s 300 miles of fiber-optic cable and high-speed Internet network were key factors in its purchase by Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc., executives said Monday.
The 101-year-old, Richland-based telecommunications company agreed yesterday to merge with Consolidated, based in Mattoon, Ill., in a deal worth $325.1 million in cash and stock. The $25 per share offer is a 17.6 percent premium to North Pittsburgh's closing stock price Friday.

North Pittsburgh Systems Inc., which has been under pressure to sell or otherwise increase its stock price announced this morning it's being acquired by Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc. for $375 million in cash and stock.
The $25 per share deal is a 17.6 percent premium over North Pittsburgh's closing price on June 29.
