It was the beginning of a killing spree that would take the lives of four lottery executives before Beck, 35, shot himself to death barely 20 minutes later in the parking lot at the Lottery's Newington headquarters.

HARTFORD, Conn. - Lottery officials are asking players of Connecticut's "Cash 5" game to hold tickets from Friday night's drawing because of an unspecified problem.
The lottery drew numbers 8, 10, 18, 19 and 23 for the daily game but called the results into question early Saturday.

The Connecticut Lottery has placed a $42 million bet that the rollout of a new technology at 3,000 lottery retailers around the state will hit a jackpot of sorts: increasing sales while reducing operating costs.
That's the amount it cost the Lottery to replace the current terminal system - which is linked by traditional telephone lines - with a modern system from Scientific Games Corp. that uses a combination of satellite communications, digital wireless links and digital subscriber line or DSL technology.
