HOPEWELL - Hopewell City Councilor and former Mayor Brenda Pelham was indicted Friday on 13 counts of violating the state's conflict of interest laws, according to a statement released by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office yesterday,
The grand jury indictments allege that Pelham knowingly failed to declare her conflict of interest in voting on school-related matters 13 times between June 2006 and July 2010. Pelham is a longtime employee with the Hopewell Public Schools system and works as attendance officer.

If a conflict of interest statement signed nearly three years ago by a Colorado Springs School District 11 board member had been made public, a recent Internet smear campaign might have been averted, two board members said this week.
The controversy surfaced a few weeks ago after an anonymous blogger and a blog by former board member Craig Cox accused Jan Tann of profiting from her board position because her husband's Domino's Pizza franchise, along with two others, does business with the district.
