• Carper Refuses to Sign Bayer Agreement: ; Official Says Company's Confidentiality Form Would 'Erode Public Confidence'

Kanawha Commission President Kent Carper said Bayer CropScience invited him to a briefing on the start-up of its reconfigured methyl isocyanate, or MIC, unit at the Institute Industrial Park but did not follow through after he refused to sign a confidentiality agreement. Carper said Bayer CropScience on Friday invited him and other county executives to attend a briefing at the Institute site at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The company attached a six-page confidentiality agreement. The company asked Carper and any other county executives who would attend the meeting to sign it.
