Dixie Carter has enjoyed a successful career on stage and screen. Best known for her role as Julia Sugarbaker on "Designing Women," she also starred in seven other TV series, including "Family Law" and "Diff'rent Strokes." She's also appeared in TV movies, Broadway and off-Broadway plays.
But when it comes to financial matters, she's the first to admit she'd had a less-than-stellar run. "I was not smart at all," she said in a telephone interview from Houston. She's in Texas appearing with her husband, Hal Holbrook, in the world premiere of a new play called "Be My Baby." She will be coming to Salt Lake City as the keynote speaker for the second annual "Smart Women, Smart Money" Women's Financial Conference on Wednesday. The conference is sponsored by Zions Bank's Women's Financial Group.

LOS ANGELES - Breeders' Cup officials, with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, will make a special announcement Wednesday morning at a press conference at L.A. Live.
Officials from the Stronach Group, which owns Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, said last week that they've reached an agreement in principle to host the 2012 Breeders' Cup World Championships, and it is expected that the Breeders' Cup will formally announce the 2012 host site on Wednesday.

As men's college basketball conference play begins in earnest this week, the Big East finds itself in a familiar position: dominating the hoops landscape.
In the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, the Big East has seven teams included. Five - Connecticut, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Villanova and Georgetown - were among the top nine teams. Notre Dame is at No. 15 and Louisville is at No. 22. And two others - undefeated Cincinnati as well as West Virginia - received Top 25 votes but didn't make the grade.
