The nationwide Conference of Chief Justices at its mid-year meeting approved a resolution supporting pay raises for New York State judges and Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye's efforts "to resolve the state's judicial salary crisis," according to a release from Judge Kaye's office.
The announcement came as part of a conference resolution calling for adequate compensation for judges throughout the country and was issued in support of national efforts to increase judicial compensation. It specifically cited New York's pay freeze, now in its 10th year.

Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Robert M. Bell and Prince George's County Circuit Court Administrative Judge William D. Missouri will hold leadership roles in prominent national organizations during 2006-2007, it was announced yesterday. Bell was elected president-elect of the Conference of Chief Justices at its annual meeting this month. Bell, who served as first vice-president of the conference during 2005, will begin his term as president next year, also serving as chair of the Board of Directors of the National Center for State Courts.
