On September 20, 2002 the New York Times carried both a report on [Condoleezza Rice]'s strategy paper and a story on foreign reaction to the document. The item included a quote from German Justice Minister Herta Daubler-Gmelin criticizing [George W. Bush]'s militaristic, superpatriotic rhetoric. She added that "Bush wants to divert attention from his domestic problems. It's a classic tactic. It's one [Hitler] also used." Her reply to official U.S. outrage over her comment was notably unapologetic: "I didn't compare the persons Bush and Hitler, but their methods.
She was right. Bush's fearmongering and demagogic methods, his right-wing constituency, and his shameless lies are reminiscent of the "moderate" faction of the Nazi Party during the pre-Hitler era. Ghetto Blacks, illegal Mexica...

Hardliners from the right are criticizing Rice's diplomatic approach, and lawmakers from the left are upset the current deal is similar to one they c...

Such a proposition has even been discussed in The Nation, a left-liberal publication. "Besides being the greatest two-for in GOP history, [Condoleezza Rice] brings other huge pluses to the old admiral. Indeed, she may be enough to elect the venerable hero/naval aviator," the magazine recently concluded. "[John McCain]'s troubles with the religious wing of his party could well evaporate with the churchgoing Rice at his side. She solidifies that part of his base overnight.
Rice can rightly be attacked for serving Bush and backing an unpopular and disastrous war," it continued. "But McCain, who is extremely pro-war himself, is not going to select a running mate who is wishywashy on Iraq. Rice is also said to have done a poor job running the State Department, where morale is supposed to h...
