Twenty-eight of 29 hospice agency providers in Connecticut, along with the Connecticut Association for Home Care and Hospice, have been working collaboratively with the state Department of Public Health for more than a year to draft proposed changes to state public health regulations for hospice facilities. The regulations dating to 1977 not only make Connecticut an outlier, but have limited access to inpatient hospice care to a single palliative care hospital at one end of the state. While nobody is disputing the excellent and compassionate care delivered at this nationally known facility, the goal of modernizing the regulations is to improve access and quality for all state residents.
