FORT LEE - The Sesame Street character Kermit the Frog laments that being green isn't easy. But for the Navy/Air Force Dining Facility on Fort Lee, being green is not only easy, it's how the building was designed.
The building is also the first on the post and in the Norfolk District of the Army Corps of Engineers to receive the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold certification.

B-town's famously potent "hurricanes" and conch fritters disappeared when Auggies Island Grill closed in July. Its alcohol-free successor, [Bueno Y Sano], which translates "Good and Healthy," is going a different route. Right next door to vegan-friendly Stone Soup, it offers an array of fresh, Mexican-flavored wraps that you choose yourself from an à la carte menu. There's not a bottle of Cuervo in sight.
How does Bueno Y Sano stack up against cross-town competitor New World Tortilla? Over there, the options are fewer and predetermined, but each "burrito" is flavorful and unique. For example, NWT is famous for its chicken club wrap with bacon," cheddar and Grey Poupon; for the Mexican-style chicken Vera Cruz laced with jalapenos; and especially for the Thai chicken burrito, which has a ...

During this dark age, many pho faithful were reduced to sipping the fragrant beef and noodle soup in Montréal. Then, a miracle: Pho Dang opened in Winooski, a hot spot for recent Asian immigrants. Pho Hong followed, bringing its gauzy, atmospheric décor to the former Burlington bus station. Between May and November of this year, three additional Vietnamese eateries cropped up. M-Saigon, a homey restaurant on Shelburne Road, opened just before Phuong's Kitchen, housed near a Slurpee dispenser in a North Avenue convenience store. Most recendy, Vietnam Restaurant launched a better-decorated sequel at the foot of Church Street.
Many modern diners consider slurping pho to be something of a religious experience - the street food even enjoys tribute groups on Facebook. Pronounced "fuh," the no...

The décor at Saigon Village is not fancy: glass and plastic over white tablecloths; utilitarian wooden chairs; slate blue carpet. The larger of two dining rooms faces B Street; it's painted a cool white, with a few Vietnamese artifacts, including large silk fans, adding some color. There's a smaller, darker room at the back, with a TV. Crystal and glass chandeliers, sparkly little holiday lights, gentle Vietnamese music and white lace curtains all add charm.
Famished when we arrived, we called for two appetizers, tau hu ky (shrimp cake, $6.95), and goi cuon (fresh spring rolls, $4.95). I had never seen the shrimp cake on a menu before, but when I asked [Adam Windham] what it was, he replied, "It's the best in town!" A sheaf of rice paper wraps around a filling of shrimp, rice vermi...
