Research has shown that managers spend a significant amount of time negotiating and that this trend will likely escalate in the future. Cross-cultural studies of negotiation tactics are needed as instances of international negotiations increase geometrically. This study analyzes the concession patterns of over 10,000 executives from 21 different nations over a 15 year period. Significant differences are found in the most and least preferred methods of concession. Implications for practicing managers are discussed in light of the results.

The National Park Service invites public comments on a proposed alternative formula for the value of leasehold surrender interest to be included in its proposed ten-year concession contract for Shenandoah National Park. The contract will cover operation of the lodging, food and beverage, retail sales, gasoline, and horseback riding operations at the Park.

WhEN the UEM Group and EPF complete their acquisition of PLUS Expressways Bhd (PLUS), the revised concession agreements and concession assets of the five expressways will be placed under a new company to be called Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama Bhd (PLUS). The latter will be a wholly owned subsidiary of PLUS Malaysia Sdn Bhd, an investment vehicle in which the UEM Group will own a 51% stake and EPF, 49%.
The government will have a `golden share' in PLUS to preserve its rights in strategic matters involving the country's national infrastructure projects. The highway operator's overseas businesses in Indonesia and India, meanwhile, will be parked under the stewardship of the UEM Group.

BEIRUT - Ahead of what could turn out to be a decisive day for Syria, protesters took credit Thursday for forcing President Bashar Assad to lift the country's 50-year state of emergency and brushed off his attempts to placate the monthlong uprising against his authoritarian regime.
Activists said they were planning the biggest protests to date today against Assad, who inherited power from his late father 11 years ago but has failed to deliver on early promises of sweeping reform. The uprising has posed the biggest challenge to the 40-year ruling dynasty of the Assad family.

WASHINGTON -- In a concession, Senate Democrats agreed Tuesday to jettison a $50 billion fund that Republicans attacked repeatedly as a perpetual Wall Street bailout-in-waiting, according to officials in both parties, clearing one of the key obstacles to approval of tougher federal controls over the financial industry.
While a formal announcement was held up pending a review by key lawmakers and the Obama administration, the emerging agreement was designed to assure that any future taxpayer costs arising from the liquidation of big firms in the future would be temporary and on a case-by-case basis.
