MADISON, Wis. - Tens of thousands of people downloaded permit applications within hours of Wisconsin's new concealed carry law taking effect Tuesday, underscoring gun enthusiasts' pent-up frustration over years of waiting for authorization to carry hidden weapons. Forty-eight other states already allow some form of concealed carry. Debate has raged for years in Wisconsin over whether allowing hidden weapons would make people safer or lead to more violence, but Republicans finally passed a law this summer allowing the practice. Tuesday was the first day state residents could apply for a permit.

SPRINGFIELD - College officials throughout the state are raising red flags over a push to allow Illinoisans to carry concealed weapons. They want lawmakers to include a provision in a proposed concealed carry law that would bar weapons from campuses.
Wisconsin's concealed-carry law is forcing contractors to weigh perceived safety against potential lawsuits. The law, which went into effect Nov. 1, lets people with permits carry concealed weapons except when posted signs prohibit such activity. The Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin Inc., according to a memo to members, recommends contractors post those signs at job sites and allow concealed carry at home offices.
State officials have added New Mexico to the list of states where licensed West Virginians can legally carry a concealed pistol. A reciprocity agreement between New Mexico and West Virginia goes into effect Dec. 1, said Will Valentino, assistant state attorney general.

Getting rid of disrespect As a high school student, I see disrespect on a daily basis. However, a bigger problem exists behind this trend - a rise in conflict. Reading the novel "Three Cups of Tea", about a man's work in Afghanistan, I realized that disrespect against another culture led to conflicts. Some in the U.N. sources think our country's disrespect toward Iraq contributed to the intensity of the war.
