Two years ago, Richard Matthews brought a fed-up-with-the-status- quo attitude to his bid for Congress in 2nd District. He was signing the Tea Party's anthem long before the name was brewed up. The Orchard Beach resident was a disciple of Ron Paul, the Texas conservative/libertarian congressman who ran for president. Matthews, a computer systems engineer, volunteered for Paul's campaign and went looking to help anyone who shared his philosophy - liberty, peace and prosperity - interested in running for Congress.

BETHEL - Allan Crane is living his retirement dream. In 2000, he and his wife moved from southern Maryland to Maine, where they had often come for ski vacations. When Crane, an electrical engineer, and his partners sold their business which designed computer systems for defense applications, he was able to pursue his other loves: Maine, art and cooking. Crane and his wife designed and built their Bethel home. "When we designed the house, we started with the kitchen and designed the house around that. It has a very open and large central island where more than one person can cook," Crane said.
