It is often claimed that research and development has its own, separate strategy. However, there are several strategies related to research, as well as to product and technology development, that address general business and competition, products and platforms, and technologies and competencies. None of these is sufficient on its own because the strategies influence one another. Business and technology roadmaps are essential in linking these company-wide strategic plans-by integrating and exploring the strategies, transforming them into actions, and making them operational. Mere strategies are not sufficient, no matter how well defined and articulated, if they are rigid. They must be resilient-incorporating an ability to recover from, or adjust easily to, misfortune or change.

AINSWORTH, Neb. - In this Great Plains ranching town, cowboys still lasso steers as part of their daily routine and cattle producers like Bob Sears still take pride in the long tradition of raising American beef.
But Sears and many other ranchers say the market for domestic meat has withered to the point where they often receive only a single reasonable bid for their animals - a trend that could eventually mean lesser-quality meat on dinner tables across the nation.

The insurance industry covers establishments that collect premiums in exchange for providing financial benefits in the event of loss or injury. Common forms of insurance include life, health and medical, home and property, workers' compensation, automobile, retirement, and title insurance. The insurance industry serves both corporate clients and individual customers. As such, the industry can be vulnerable to economic downturns that limit both business and personal spending. Many insurers are pursuing business abroad in order to counter the downturn in domestic sales. There's also a competition issue, as banks may offer products from multiple insurers, seeking to find the best match for their client's needs. Times are hard for the insurance sector. This article takes as a premise that technological innovation, meaning the promotion of new products and processes through invention and creation, best occurs through competition. The challenge for intellectual property and antitrust law is recognizing the many ways that competition occurs as new products are developed, tested, commercialized, and marketed. As this article demonstrates, intellectual property doctrines also promote competition, specifically the competitive forces that promote innovation. The author's argument in this article is that intellectual property and antitrust together form a body of competition policy whose role is to promote innovation. He then use this descriptive model of intellectual property to explain the recent set of Supreme Court cases, roughly from 200...

As a candidate for president, Barack Obama talked a lot about "fair trade." Unlike free trade, which is an objective concept, fair
trade is vague and provides wiggle room to adjust to the political interests of individual politicians. President Obama's interpretation of fair trade is shaking out, and it entails paying hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars every year to subsidize the Brazilian cotton industry. Sending big bucks to Latin American competitors probably isn't what most Americans consider fair.
