- Blue Cross and Communitycare Join Forces to Offer Medicare Blue Ppo to Eligible Oklahomans
Two of the state's leading private, locally owned insurers - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and CommunityCare Managed Healthcare Plans of Oklahoma - are joining forces to offer a new health plan option for Oklahomans eligible for Medicare. Pending federal approval, Medicare beneficiaries in 21 counties throughout central and eastern Oklahoma may choose Medicare Blue PPO - an individual Medicare PPO health plan - instead of traditional Medicare coverage, beginning June 1, 2005. The new plan will be provided and underwritten by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and administered by CommunityCare Life and Health Insurance.

The state recently negotiated HMO contracts for its 37,000 employees for $30 million less than what the Office of State Finance originally projected, Oklahoma Employee Benefits Council officials said. The state's average cost increase in health, vision and dental benefit plans for 2010 over this year will be 5.86 percent, compared with the 12.88-percent increase projected by the finance office and an 11.8-percent average increase nationwide projected by human resource consulting firm Hewitt Associates.
