Community Policing's Current Challenge Jeremy Travis, in his study, Police in Transition, stated, "of all government functions, the police function is arguably the most visible, the most immediate, the most intimately involved with the well-being of individuals and the health of a community" (Travis, 1998). Because of this close relationship with the public, police departments have been placed in a position to become the lead entity to coordinate and serve as a lynchpin amongst city departments, or actually provide more personal and responsive service to the public.

PASADENA - The city's Police Department will hold a community meeting later this month to discuss pertinent matters and promote greater understanding between the department and the community.
The meeting will be held on Monday, March 29 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at John Muir High School and will be hosted by the Western Justice Center.

BOWERSVILLE -- The village council in Bowersville wanted to start a volunteer police department to curb speeding on Ohio 72.
In his pitch to become the village's police chief, Richard Bell in May told the council: "This one little stretch of road right here is money -- a cash cow that you guys aren't using.

One Brooklyn mother is looking for answers after police officers shot and killed her two sons. Two plainclothee officers shot brothers Dwayne David, 21, and Keyshawn Forde, 22, last Sunday in East Fiatbush. The NYPD says that the shooting was within police guidelines because officers said the two aimed guns at them.
Councilman Charles Barron and the mother of the men, Dale Baptiste, are calling for an independent autopsy. The funeral for David and Forde was last Saturday. Their bodies will be sent to Trinidad for burial after the autopsy. A rally and march were held for the brothers last Sunday in East Fiatbush.

BRADFORD -- A proposal to abolish the police department has created a rift in a community already divided by the Miami-Darke county line.
The Village Council tonight could vote on two ordinances: one to disband the department, the other to hire the Miami County Sheriff's Department to provide police protection for the community of around 1,900.
