While it can't be said that Spanish food is like Creole cooking, the two have a spirit in common, and the stuff is easy to love. New Orleans has always had a few Spanish restaurants, but we've seemed to encourage more to open in the past decade. Madrid may have the best cooking of them all. The Harrison Avenue restaurant community, which looked at first as if Hurricane Katrina had dealt it a deathblow, has bounced back to become bigger and more interesting than it was before. Madrid is a major addition to the scene.
As the owners and operators of Madrid's general store, the Old Boarding House Mercantile, we've read with interest the past couple of weeks the comments of the would-be festival promoter, Ron Phillips, and his assignment of blame for the demise of his recent First Annual Madrid Chili (sic) Festival to a group of "10 or 15 lawless renegade local residents." Phillips need look no further than the nearest mirror for an explanation of his recent failure. Different rates of growth between countries or within periods inside a country are determined by the creation of enterprises. This article shows an X-ray of entrepreneurs hip in Spain in the period 1999-2002. So, the position Spain is in is analysed in respect to a series of European countries as regards entrepreneurship, by means of the observation of three variables: births, deaths and survivals of enterprises in the market. Afterwards, we analyse the performance of the enterprises created in Spain during the analysed period.
