Sixteen local non-profit organizations will receive $33,385 from the Mediacom Cultural Foundation to support new community arts and cultural initiatives.
Award recipients were announced Oct. 19 during Mediacom's fifth annual "Celebration of the Arts" luncheon at the Grand River Center.

Danista E.I. Hunte has been promoted to vice president, community investment of the Baltimore Community Foundation. She will oversee all of BCF's grants, special initiatives, and advocacy. Hunte had been senior program officer, focusing on education, children and families. She joined BCF in 2000 with experience in program planning and management, health policy, advocacy, applied social research, and substance abuse prevention. The foundation deploys grants, initiatives and advocacy while building a civic endowment.

The largest receipt of grant money from the Cameron Foundation in March was a Richmond-based community revitalization organization.
The Virginia Local Initiatives Support Corp. (LISC) was awarded $300,000, to be paid over the next two years by the Petersburg- based foundation. Virginia LISC, the state affiliate of a national organization founded in 1979, supports community development organizations with grants, loans and services to help develop businesses, community centers and affordable housing in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.
