This article reviews and analyzes the goals and approaches espoused in the George W. Bush administration's proposed Strengthening America's Communities Initiative (SACI). Drawing on a variety of materials describing the rationale, purpose, assumptions, goals, and components of the newest policy approach to community and economic development, this paper tries to critically examine the initiative using a capacity-building framework and some of the historical antecedents of Federal grant programs for community development - including some defunct programs to inform current discussion about the proposal. This Notice announces the availability of $8,611,000 of FYs 2011 and 2012 funding of competitive grant funds for the RCDI program through the Rural Housing Service (RHS), an agency within the USDA Rural Development mission area (Agency). Appropriation Acts made available $4,990,000 in FY 2011 and $3,621,000 in FY 2012 for the RCDI program for a total of $8,611,000 for the two fiscal years. National program awards grants of $1 million in two years
NEW YORK, Dec. 20, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- MetLife Foundation today announced that it is awarding $500,000 among 12 nonprofit community development groups in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area as part of its 2010 Community Development Initiative. The organizations are being recognized for leadership and excellence in implementing affordable housing and economic development activities that increase access and opportunity in diverse lower-income neighborhoods. The groups received grants of up to $50,000 each. Since 2009, MetLife Foundation has awarded $1 million through the Community Development Initiative.
