HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Laid-off or underemployed workers will now have a better chance to enter high- wage, high-demand jobs throughout the state with the help of a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to Pennsylvania's 14 community colleges. Dr. Jill Biden, U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis and Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter announced the grant award today through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) program. PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) announces that Community College of Philadelphia will receive a $600,000 grant under the Predominantly Black Institutions Program of the U.S. Department of Education. Community College of Philadelphia performs a critical role as the place where African Americans and other minority students can begin their journey in higher education and increase their life chances. It has the largest African American and Latino enrollment in Pennsylvania ," Fattah said. Margaret M. "Peg" Jeffries, 79, of West Lampeter Twp., passed away on Wednesday evening, April 21, 2010, at Arbor View of Willow Valley. Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Jane (Watson) Jeffries. Ms. Jeffries graduated from Wheaton College in 1955.
