Chesapeake Community Center The following activities have been scheduled or are regularly scheduled at the Chesapeake Town Hall and Community Center, 12404 MacCorkle Ave. in Chesapeake.
Rand Community Center, 5701 Church Drive, Rand Rand Bible Fellowship: A community Bible fellowship is being offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the community center. The study is on the Biblical view of church history. Child care for preschoolers is available. Study materials are provided free of charge. Rand Community Center, 5701 Church Drive, Rand History Center: The Kanawha Valley History Center, second floor, Rand Community Center, is open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays (excluding holidays or otherwise noted). Two computers are available for use of the general public or genealogy research with access to Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest are available. The center will have the brochure on "Black History in West Virginia" as well as census books and other information for research. Call Director Linda Hoskins at 304-925-2438 for more information.
Out-of-class involvement provides students with opportunities for rich social lives which, according to Cheng (2004), are closely associated with sense of campus community. Based on Astin's (1984) Theory of Involvement, and Boyer's (1990) principles of community, the purpose of this study was to examine how involvement in out-of-class activities influences students' perceived sense of campus community. Three hundred and thirty respondents completed an on-line questionnaire which consisted of demographics and questions related to their out-of-class involvement in 14 areas as identified by the institutions' Dean of Students Office, and a 25-item sense of community scale developed by Cheng (2004).
