This article describes a model to think about threats of violence in businesses. Threats are examined based on communication, credibility, lethality, process, specificity, and type. Business leadership can use this model to understand threats in order to make decisions about what if any actions need to be taken. Suggestions are also given about rating the severity of the threat.

Drawing upon a cultural studies perspective, this study investigates the audience role in shaping corporate involvement in social issues - identified as cause-related corporate outreach. We assert that, more than consumer, voter, or passive receptor of corporate messages, the audience is an active participant in the communication process. This case study of the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk, one of the most visible fitness-based fundraising events, examines the meaning individual participants construct during their involvement in the event. In this study, we examine, on the one hand, the link between employees' readiness to accept TQM and their perceptions regarding managers, and, on the other hand, the relationship between these perceptions and communication patterns between managers and subordinates. We found, somewhat paradoxically, that employees with less favorable perceptions of managers reported a more positive stance toward TQM and that perceptions of managers were closely related to the openness of both top-down and bottom-up communication.

The literature suggests that transferring knowledge may lead to a competitive advantage, synergistic cost advantages, and better implementation of organizational strategies, but there is little empirical evidence to guide organizations in managing the knowledge transfer process. This research explores how organizations use communication media to transfer or share knowledge. Building upon media richness theory (Daft and Lengel, 1986), we hypothesize that rich media would be used more often to transfer know-how or tacit knowledge, and lean media would be used more often to transfer information or explicit knowledge.
