  • The New York State Common Retirement Fund's value soared 14.6 percent for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011, its second consecutive double-digit jump and almost enough to bring it to the high water mark it reached several years ago. New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli on Thursday released an estimate of the fund's value of $146.5 billion, the highest since the global economic downturn in fiscal 2008-2009.

  • For the first time since March 2009, the New York State Common Retirement Fund has made an investment in a Long Island-based company. The company, PACS Industries in Great Neck, which manufactures high-voltage circuit breakers and other electrical equipment, received a capital infusion of $3.6 million from the common retirement fund's in-state private equity program in a deal that closed late February. The private equity firm handling the deal, Rochester-based Delta Point Capital Management, will also channel an additional $3.6 million to PACS Industries, for a total investment of $7.2 million, said Christopher Brodhead, the vice president of business development for Delta Point.

  • The state's Common Retirement Fund, which lost about $30 billion between April and October last year, saw its losses slow dramatically in recent months, shrinking by only about $2.3 billion in the last quarter of last year, a spokesman for Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said.
