Novato residents might not have thought much about it at the time, but they sure thought about it when NCRA recently distributed a memo to its board, which announced a major increase in the number of freight trains that NCRA envisions running on the tracks. The memo, which board members received about a month ago, said NCRA now envisions running three round-trip 15-car freight trains a week when freight service begins, probably next year. And NCRA expects that number to increase as the new freight service gets rolling, bringing the number of freight trains that could roll through Novato to two round-trips per day.
