Executives say they're worried about engagement levels, which have fallen most dramatically for top performers. And companies are taking some steps to win over employees, such as CEO town-hall meetings, increased mentoring and more kudos for jobs well done. Employee engagement refers to how committed workers are to their organization, and how much extra effort they are willing to put on the job. Like many business concepts, it can be missapplied. Firms can obsess to much about engagement survey scores and not tie engagement initiatives directly to business outcomes. A May survey by Watson Wyatt of 1,300 workers at large US employers found that engagement levels for top performers fell close to 25% year over year. This study examines the relationship between career opportunities, work life policies, job characteristics and organizational commitment of information technology (IT) professionals in Pakistan. The results show that career opportunities and work life policies in IT professionals are significantly correlated with organizational commitment, while job characteristics do not determine their organizational commitment. Organizations will have to devise more family friendly policies and provide opportunities for career development to IT professionals to induce organizational commitment. Strategies addressing these issues are also discussed.

ST. LOUIS - Sitting in limbo somewhere near East Bay, Calif., Tony La Russa emphasized Tuesday that he won't commit to another term as St. Louis Cardinals manager until chairman Bill DeWitt can at least provide direction where the club's general manager search may end.

"The GM is the guy I would work for directly. So why would I get in a situation where the manager is not the guy who (the new general manager) would hire?

Finally, it found that educational attainment, income level, degree of religious belief, and commitment to profit attainment were all associated with dedication to social responsibility.

Although the relationship between intent to quit and affective commitment has been examined before, this study advances our knowledge in this area in at least two ways. First, this study reports on subjects (prison Correctional Officers), who hold what can be described as "atypical" jobs. Contrary to our expectations, there was little evidence of gender-specific differences in regards to the impact of non-work related variables. But, as hypothesized, there was a significant main effect for affective commitment on intent to quit, a significant main effect for a caring, supportive environment on affective commitment, and a signi...

Gresham believed in continuing the legacy of Hansberry's work through her commitment to social justice issues.
Gresham was born to schoolteacher parents in Wilcox County, Alabama, on October 12, 1922, where education was deeply ingrained in the family. Gresham's formative years were spent on a farm with her brothers an...
