WASHINGTON, Feb. 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A group of third party candidates and their parties from across the political spectrum filed suit today charging the Federal Election Commission with failing to act on their complaint seeking to decertify the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) as sponsor of the presidential debates in 2004. The plaintiffs allege that the CPD must be decertified because it is a partisan group that is controlled by the two major parties and acts to benefit them exclusively. Federal law requires debate sponsors to be nonpartisan in order to put on the debates and fund them with corporate monies. John McCain, the eighth president of Hofstra University turned the nation's attention to his Hempstead institution. WASHINGTON, June 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by Open Debates: Faced with mounting criticism from a public campaign led by Open Debates and its 60 civic group supporters, the Commission on Presidential Debates has adopted some of Open Debates' format proposals for the 2004 general election presidential debates. These fig-leaf format proposals are unlikely to be implemented because the CPD is a compromised organization that deceptively privileges the interests of the Republican and Democratic parties over the interests of the American people.
