Several factors affecting life insurance agent production were tested in an effort to produce a predictive model of agent and agency production. Surprisingly, formal education, professional education, and training showed no affect on production. The number of policyholders and smaller management span of control both proved predictive. The most important predictors, however, proved to be prior performance. The purpose of this study is to analyze factors commonly believed to affect life insurance agent production. This study will also test many of the factors commonly used within the insurance industry to select new agents.
