Aiken City Council members agreed Monday night to continue developing a highway overlay district that would set design guidelines for new commercial and office buildings along the city's major corridors. Design plans for a $7 million expansion at the Germantown Community Library are being shelved as elected officials focus their energy on a municipal school district. Germantown Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy sent a memo this week to the aldermen and the library board canceling a work session set for Monday afternoon on the library expansion.

Keith Donohue set out Feb. 6 from San Diego on a journey to offer his help from manual labor to Internet design as part of a quest to "eat, sleep and breathe nothing but volunteerism" and inspire others. Memphis was the 13th stop on the tour of the 50 states with stops in Canada and Mexico. Donohue, 33, chose to volunteer at Memphis- based International Children's Heart Foundation, a nonprofit agency founded in 1994 by heart surgeon Dr. William Novick to provide heart surgery for children in developing nations.
