Midwest Region's Arrangements Chair Leonard Abrams stopped by the author's office in Chicago and told him about several old League convention medals that Abram's son had discovered on the Internet. Mark Abrams purchased three pieces from 1913, 1921 and 1926, had them framed and then presented to the CLLA on behalf of the firm during the 2007 CLLA Spring Chicago & Annual Meeting. Perhaps the next time you are on the Internet or looking through your own or family's archives, you too might find an old photo or badge from a past CLLA Annual Meeting. Hopefully, all of the past presidents, board, committee and general members of the CLLA from its formative years at the end of the 19th Century onward to today would look upon them with approval as they advance the association into the 21st ...

The Chicago meeting marks the end of another year for the Commercial Law League of America (CLLA). As the organization approaches the 2008 CLLA Spring/Chicago meeting, the end of one fiscal year is coming to a close and the start of the next is dawning. Likewise, the end of one CLLA presidency is ending and the next president is to be sworn in. Their recent president, Wanda Borges, has been such a great leader and ambassador for the CLLA. One of the true measures of whether one has been a successful leader is whether one has had influence on a given organization or not. John Maxwell in his book The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership states that the true measure of leadership is influence.

For more than 30 years, the Commercial Collection Agency Association (CCAA) of the Commercial Law League of America has worked to elevate the standards of the commercial collection industry in an effort to better serve and protect credit grantors. Membership in the CCAA is organizational, meaning that firms, not individuals, are deemed members. As a result, only agencies -- not individuals -- can obtain certification, and firms must complete all extensive certification process to become members of the CCAA. To maintain its certification, the agency must: submit trust account information semi-annually; submit account placement information quarterly; attend one CCAA meeting per year; meet continuing education requirements; and be subject to a random visit from the executive director.
