With declining staff and failing facilities, the Memphis Police Department's CO-ACT program wasn't working very well. So MPD Director Toney Armstrong decided to do away with CO-ACT - short for "community action" - and replace it with something else.
Bayer CropScience and Helena Chemical Co. will expand their Memphis facilities at Agricenter International in separate projects that total more than $19 million. Bayer CropScience will invest $17 million in new greenhouses and other research and development facilities around its existing facility on Smythe Farm Road, less than a mile away from Agricenter's Expo Center. The project will more than double the size of Bayer's facility from 4 acres to 9 acres, said Agricenter president John Charles Wilson, who announced the expansion projects in a Monday meeting of the Memphis Agriculture Club.
