Britain's Prince Harry (photo) has said he will be deployed to Afghanistan for a second time -- almost four years after his previous secret mission was cut short when details leaked, according to a newspaper report Wednesday. The 27-year-old Harry, who is third in line to the throne, told guests at a military awards ceremony Monday night that he would likely return next year, The Sun newspaper reported. Harry served as a battlefield air controller in Afghanistan for 10 weeks from December 2007, but was sent home early after details were made public -- first by an Australian celebrity magazine and later on the Drudge Report website. He became the first member of the British royal family to serve in a war zone since his uncle, P...

While the immediate issue was said to be [F. David Sheppard]'s job title and whether he had been required to get Senate confirmation, tensions between him and Michael Balboni, the state's homeland security czar, had been brewing for some time, according to insiders who declined to be named since they weren't authorized to speak on the matter.
Some members of the approximately 120person OHS said the resignation was prompted either by Balboni's desire to assert himself and possibly put his or Paterson's, own people into the agency's leadership, or by resistance to Sheppard's military management style.
A decorated combat helicopter pilot who served in Vietnam, Sheppard previously ran OHS's Weapons of Mass Destruction Task Force and is a brigadier general with the Army National Guard. He he...

More than 300 Run for the Wall bikers made a pit stop at Valley Park May 23 and participated in a presentation in honor of veterans. Hundreds of people gathered at the park and lined the road to greet the bikers. The annual run promotes healing for veterans and awareness of POWs and MIAs. Gretchen Young of Hurricane and her daughter, Lauren, pose in a Vietnam War-era combat helicopter while waiting for the bikers. The copter is a Bell UH-1B manufactured in 1962. It was also seen in the television show China Beach and several movies.
Mitzi Sizemore (left) and Carla Helton, both of Hurricane, hand out bandannas to identify volunteers. The women are with a local motorcycle club.

Elite Navy SEALs member Aaron Carson Vaughn had asked the military to return him to combat and shipped out just six weeks before he was killed Saturday when a U.S. military helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan, killing 38, including 22 SEALs.
Vaughn's grandmother, Geneva Vaughn, said her grandson, who grew up in rural Obion County outside of Union City, had wanted to be a SEAL since he was a child and returned to combat just two weeks after his 2-month-old daughter was born this summer.
