A federal judge approved a family's $300,000 wrongful death settlement with the United States. The agreement stems from the death of Norman Mayfield, 58, a Vietnam veteran who was treated for lung cancer at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia. He died Feb. 3, 2008, following a Jan. 6 surgery to remove part of his lung.
Kathleen L. Christman Kathleen Loise Christman, 82, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Christman was born in Laidlaw, British Columbia. She worked as an apple packer at Northwestern Fruit Co.
Local veterans have a new way to grade the health care services they receive at Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia. Sen. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital is taking steps to improve several deficiencies cited in a recent report by the Office of the Inspector General. The OIG's combined assessment program, or CAP, of the Columbia hospital found five deficiencies among seven functions that were reviewed.
