The purpose of this qualitative study is to analyze how advertising affects search and college choice among the plethora of college choice influencers. The results of the research indicate that parents, older siblings, friends, career aspirations, personal funds, scholarships, institutional reputation, location, sports, high school counselors, and college visits are more persuasive than advertising. However, if the college or the university identifies a key consumer insight, then advertising has a greater effect on search and college choice.

The purpose of this qualitative study is to analyze how advertising affects a student's search and community college choice among the plethora of community colleges, career/ technical schools, universities, and other influencers. The results of the research indicate that parents, friends, high school counselors, economics (i.e., money), and location are more persuasive than advertising. However, if the community college identifies a key consumer insight, then advertising is just as persuasive because it serves as a reminder, and it perpetuates the dialogue about higher education options.

This article focuses on the interaction between students and institutions as they move toward decisions related to college attendance. Enrollment managers will find this information useful as they work within their institution to develop and revise long-term recruiting strategies that benefit both the institution and future students. Typically, research on this topic has focused on either the college choice process made by students or the enrollment management practices of institutions. Taken separately, each implies the participation of the other group. Yet few research studies have specifically examined how each directly affects the other (McDonough 1994). Thus, I propose a model that attempts to explicitly represent how the interaction of these two processes-college choice and enroll...

Though the importance of college is well recognized (Heckert & Wallace, 1998; Arney, Hardeback, Estrada & Permenter, 2006), there continues to be debate about whether a specific major or choice of college affects a person's future success as measured by position and/or compensation. As college costs have risen faster than income (Anonymous, 2008;Tozzi, 2009), parents and school counselors are increasing efforts to find the most affordable, yet worthwhile, options for higher education. This research was undertaken to investigate whether there is a relationship among the many variables that a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) possesses on the way to leading a large company. More specifically, this article seeks to move inquiry beyond the analysis of student characteristics to begin to incorporate a focus on behavioral intentions, attitudes, and subjective norms that may also have an impact on student college choice.

Choosing a graduate (masters and doctoral) program of study at an ideal institution is probably one of the most important decisions students and their family will make. The graduate college selection involves identifying the most critical academic and non-academic factors, and weighing their importance against the large quantity of choices available. Academics are subdivided into institutional, departmental/program, and faculty factors, while non-academics are subdivided into personal reasons and influence of other people. This study reviews critical academic and non-academic factors influencing the college choice decisions of graduate students. Results of previous research indicate that graduate school selection factors vary according certain demographic variables including age, gender...
