For their 2013 concert tour, "Acoustic Sessions Live!" - limited to 18 cities, including Evansville, tonight - the members of Christian adult contemporary rock group Casting Crowns will be performing music from their newly released CD "Acoustic Sessions: Volume 1," which includes reinterpreting some of their most enduring songs. "What this means, exactly, is we use acoustic guitars, bass, mandolin, violin and string section. The only thing amplified is our collective sound," said Mark Hall, Casting Crowns founder, singer and songwriter, in a recent telephone interview. Our goal is to take the audience back to where the songs were when we wrote them.. a lot of people have their favorites and we want them to hear them in a more innocent way.

The collective Man of Action Studios - which is Casey and three other comic book writers - created and developed the popular Cartoon Network series "Ben 10" and they're currently producing a new Spider-Man animated series for the Disney XD cable channel.

On Saturday, local music collective FreeWorld will mark its 20th anniversary with a special reunion and anniversary concert at Newby's. "It's probably going to be chaos," says FreeWorld bassist, co-founder and sole consistent member Richard Cushing. "But it's going to be a lot of fun. Some 40 former FreeWorld alumni are expected to perform at the show, which will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. While that sounds like an impressive number, in fact, it represents just a fraction of the several hundred musicians who've played with the group during the past two decades. "I'm like the Chris Squire of a Memphis Yes," laughs Cushing, referring to the leader of the similarly revolving door English art-rock group. "It's been me and a million other people over the years."
