Brooke Hairston of Pittsburgh and the owner of Retail Closeout Mall recently launched a new online shopping Web site, www.RetailCloseoutMall.com. This site is an African-American-owned business that offers customers the opportunity to buy quality, brand name products that are overstocked, liquidated or closeout merchandise at a reduced price. It could save consumers up to 90 percent. After Hairston discovered the growing popularity in online shopping, she closed her brick and mortar store and opened her online stores. Retail Closeout Mall lets consumers find merchandise that can be found at shopping malls, in mail order catalogs and the television shopping networks.

The fallout from the current economic downturn is hitting retailers hard. Linens 'n Things, a home-goods merchandiser, is going out of business.
