Tammy Fletcher has joined The Arc of Howard County as assistant director of quality assurance. She is responsible for promoting and protecting the rights, safety, satisfaction, and community inclusion of the individuals supported by the agency. Fletcher previously worked on the quality assurance & review team for the Developmental Disabilities Administration of Maryland. She was quality improvement coordinator and earlier a coordinator in the supported living department of The Arc of Northern Chesapeake Region. Fletcher has a degree in social work from McDaniel College.

Building on transit
In the same way that the interstate highway system drove development over the past half-century, mass transit could be a defining force in shaping the future of Central Maryland, according to a report issued Wednesday by the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance. Projects built with access to public transportation -- such as the Clipper Mill development in Woodberry -- can change the way people get from home to work and reduce the importance of car travel, the report says. Areas considered ripe for transit-oriented development include Westport, Fells Point and Inner Harbor East.
