Building on transit In the same way that the interstate highway system drove development over the past half-century, mass transit could be a defining force in shaping the future of Central Maryland, according to a report issued Wednesday by the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance. Projects built with access to public transportation -- such as the Clipper Mill development in Woodberry -- can change the way people get from home to work and reduce the importance of car travel, the report says. Areas considered ripe for transit-oriented development include Westport, Fells Point and Inner Harbor East.
