Climate change isn't a threat. CO2 isn't a significant factor. But the action we're proposing to take on climate mitigation will devastate our Western economies and impoverish a whole generation.
Over the last hundred years, mean global temperatures have increased by 0.7 of a degree Centigrade. That's all. The whole climate scare is all about a fraction of a degree. According to Professor Phil Jones of the infamous Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, there has been no significant warming for the last 15 years.

TO THE EDITORS:
The March 4 letter from Robert Vaillancourt addressing the tiresome method of climate-change deniers - focusing on short-term changes when it suits and ignoring the very obvious and striking longer-term trends - provides an excellent object lesson for all of us.

I disagree entirely with Alan Boone when he writes that global warming is an unfounded panic, "Global warming panic unfounded," (BDN, March 29). He indicated he was not a scientist and neither am I, but I do one thing that I don't think Dr. Boone does: I read.
He states that global warming enthusiasts are "urging us to pass laws that would demand great changes in our economy." His emphasis is that these changes would not be good, but in fact the opposite is true. Perhaps he hasn't read the many articles in your newspaper where companies have found it saves money to go "green." He also says that with record cold temperatures, and record amounts of snowfall, it "has not been a good winter for global warming.

GLOBAL WARMING is having its moment in the sun. The climate crisis is on "60 Minutes" and in Tom Brokaw's new documentary, on the cover of Time and Newsweek, and in Al Gore's new movie and best- selling book.
But while polls show that most Americans now believe that global warming is real and significantly manmade - in recent 100-plus- degree weather, it felt more real than ever - they are much less concerned about the issue than non-Americans, and much less willing to support dramatic action to address it.

Climate change skepticism by one congressman among California's 53 ordinarily doesn't matter much. But coming from Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, it's now leading to one of the most significant attacks ever on California's lead smog-fighting agency, the state Air Resources Board (ARB).
Issa, representing a conservative north San Diego County district, does not dispute that the globe has warmed. It's the pace of warming he questions, doubting that action is urgent. He also questions how much warming is man-made and whether the actions of one country alone can make much difference.

REDLANDS - After hearing close to 20 residents offer their thoughts on climate change, environmental responsibility and regulation, the City Council unanimously adopted the Redlands Sustainability Plan.
The document was created by a group of volunteers who came forward at the end of 2008 to form the Climate Action Task Force and eventually drafted the plan. City staff then worked on the plan to create the final document adopted by all the council members, except Paul Foster who was not present at Tuesday's meeting.
