LAS VEGAS -- The burned exterior facade along the roof of the Monte Carlo hotel-casino will have to be removed or secured before the Las Vegas Strip resort can reopen, the chief county building inspector said Saturday.
Ron Lynn, chief of the Clark County Building Department, said the 32-story building will remain closed until resort owner MGM Mirage Inc. completes work to the roof-line foam building material damaged in Friday's blaze.

LAS VEGAS - The fire-damaged Monte Carlo hotel-casino remained closed to guests Saturday while inspectors checked the 32-story building for damage following the blaze that blackened the facade of the top floors.
Ron Lynn, chief of the Clark County Building Department, said he did not know when he would permit the 3,000-room hotel to reopen.

Clark Countys home building recovery appeared to take a step back in May after two stronger months, though building starts showed continued improvement over last year.
The Clark County Community Development Department issued 29 permits for new homes in May, representing $10.1 million in value, according to a release Tuesday. It was up 52.6 percent from the 19 permits in the same month last year, although down from Aprils 60 permits and far lower than the 103 permits issued in March.
