Recently I sat with a group of politically savvy types discussing what effect "Air Claire" might have on the senator's political future. Opinions ranged from dire to my own: not much.
Airplane problems for politicians pop up often enough to earn a generic name. In recent weeks we are regaled with the governor's "Air Jay" and now "Air Claire." In the case of Sen. Claire McCaskill, the plane snafu involved nonpayment of property taxes for a plane owned by her husband's company and used by her for flitting hither and yon on official business. She also had to reimburse the government for a small amount of political use during one official flight.
