  • WHILE far from perfect, the progress made in U.S. racial desegregation and inclusion over the last 50 years has been steady although not rapid, progressive although not revolutionary. The staggering transformation of our society, particularly after the 1950s and '60s civil rights acts and subsequent Supreme Court interpretations, is notable. The desegregation of our social institutions is an accepted fact and, while there are still significant obstacles to overcome before equal opportunity and access is a total reality, our society continues to develop in this area.
