  • Mequon property owners pay nearly 41% of the tax levy for Ozaukee County government. City of Cedarburg property owners chip in almost 10.1% of the county's levy. City of West Bend property owners contribute 18.1% of Washington County's levy with property owners in the Village of Germantown providing nearly 17%. Property owners in Richfield, which will officially become a village Wednesday, pay the third largest portion of the county government's levy, or 11.5%.

  • WEST BEND Mayor leaving city for out-of-state job

  • Starting Wednesday, Bend will no longer be the largest city west of the Mississippi without a public transportation system. After six years of deliberation and planning, the city will begin its new fixed-route bus service, Bend Area Transit. Seven lines will run every half hour on weekdays and six lines each hour on Saturdays on routes throughout the city.

  • West Bend - Eight more counts of burglary, including one for stealing more than $1,400 from a St. Vincent DePaul thrift store, have been filed against three teenagers, adding to another eight filed last week in connection with a string of burglaries. The new charges filed Thursday against the three teens - Robert A. Deiss, 17, of the town of West Bend, and twin brothers Ben R. Anderson and Jeff C. Anderson, also 17, of the city of West Bend - are related to burglaries committed in West Bend between May 11 and June 16, according to a criminal complaint.

  • CUBA CITY, Wis. - Bernadette C. (Johll) Davies, 51, of West Bend, formerly of Cuba City, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at home, surrounded by her family, from melanoma cancer. Services will be at 7 p.m. to-day at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend, where friends may call after 3 p.m. today. Services also will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City, where friends also may call after 10 a.m Friday. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. The MyrhumPatten Funeral & Cremation Service, West Bend, and the Casey Funeral Home, Cuba City, are in charge of arrangements.

  • West Bend -- City officials failed to justify the need for a proposed $29 million expansion of the West Bend Municipal Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday in rejecting the project. The FAA cancelled work on an environmental impact statement, started in 2006, for the expansion plan.

  • Rancho Palos Verdes has announced the reopening of some of the nature trails that were closed after a wildfire burned through the area in late August. The trails to the south and west of the burn area, which was centered in the city's Portuguese Bend Reserve, have been reopened.

  • West Bend Janet Heins, a candidate for Mid-Moraine Municipal Court judge in the April 5 election, might ask a Washington County Circuit Court to review and possibly overturn results of a recount that confirmed her opponent, John Grundahl, as the winner. A plastic bag containing more than 600 votes from District 8 on the west side of the city of West Bend was open when it arrived at the county clerk's office last week for the recount, Heins said Monday.

  • A proposed $12.8 million development that would replace an empty building along West Bend's riverfront with office and retail space is getting a state grant. The City of West Bend is receiving the $500,000 grant and will use it to help pay for an environmental cleanup on 4 acres in downtown West Bend, Gov. Jim Doyle announced Thursday.

  • West Bend City police honored 11 residents of Washington, Dodge and Fond du Lac counties and the congregation of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in West Bend as good Samaritans for their "extraordinary efforts" in assisting officers or helping other citizens during 2005. Crime Prevention and Community Relations Officer Kelly Scannell said the citizens are "tremendous assets" for police and the community. Several crimes, including a bank robbery and graffiti damage to schools and a park, would not have been solved as quickly without the intervention of the honorees, Scannell said.
