PETERSBURG - National Night Out is a chance for neighbors to get to know each other, share a hot dog or two and sometimes to also enjoy a little entertainment. On Tuesday night, the annual, nationwide event was recognized in most of the Tri-City area.
At the Petersburg Sports Complex, Delegate Rosalyn Dance smiled and greeted attendees at the event, which featured entertainment from the children that participated in the Petersburg Parks and Leisure Services summer camp.

Black History Month is a time set aside to remember African- Americans who have made great accomplishments with their many achievements. Here in the city of Petersburg, Va., history was made when Joseph Harper Jr. was elected the first African-American Sheriff for the city of Petersburg in 1985. He served as sheriff for 16 years before retiring.

One of the city's most iconic structures will be redeveloped in Old Towne Petersburg after years of effort.
The Petersburg City Council has authorized City Manager William E. Johnson III to enter into a lease of the Farmers Market building on Old Street. The council voted unanimously Tuesday to enter into a 40-year lease of the building with a group, Farmers Market LLC, to convert the building into a restaurant.
