This article uses data from a study of 122 adult women drug users residing in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area to identify associations between economic stressors related to occupying disadvantaged statuses, institutional integration, and drug use. The data stem from targeted sampling and ethnographic mapping procedures. The findings suggest that experiencing stressors related to economic circumstance and daily subsistence increased the likelihood of drug use. Results also indicate religious involvement and kinship networks are independently and negatively associated with drug use, but fail to reduce the negative effects of economic stressors on drug use. A community meeting Friday "to discuss dance in Evansville" could help local dance companies better coordinate their activities, but it will definitely help Evansville Dance Theatre decide its own future, said Carol McClintock, president of the organization's board of directors.
Evansville Dance Theatre's directors asked the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana to host the meeting, which Lynn Miller Pease, executive director for Leadership Evansville, will guide. The announcement, sent to about 100 people - including Evansville's dance school directors and teachers, parents of dance students and others interested in dance - says the meeting will explore "opportunities for cooperation and collaboration.
