The Circuit Court for Baltimore City is housed in two buildings that are woefully inadequate and are disasters waiting to happen. Visit any county in Maryland, and you will find modern, attractive courthouse facilities. By contrast, the two buildings facing the Battle Monument in Baltimore that house most of the facilities of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City are an embarrassment.
In the spring of 2011, the Baltimore City Circuit Courthouse Feasibility Study, funded by the Maryland Stadium Authority, was released to the public. The feasibility study attempts to address serious problems, but falls far from the mark in many of the proposed solutions.

A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury has awarded $1.246 million to a man who required surgery on both knees as a result of repetitive stress injuries from nearly 40 years of working for CSX Transportation Inc.
After a trial before Judge Alfred Nance, the jury determined that Edward L. Pitts Sr.'s damages were about $1.78 million. However, CSX is not liable for the entire amount because the case was brought under the Federal Employers Liability Act, which calls for a comparative negligence standard.

The Circuit Court for Baltimore City is very appreciative of the past and current support The Daily Record has lent to our efforts to improve the two old courthouses that we occupy and to build a new state of the art criminal courthouse. However, I must address a number of factual errors that appeared in the Editorial Advisory Board's opinion of Oct. 13, 2011.
The process undertaken to further address courthouse needs has been very open, transparent, inclusive and comprehensive throughout the two-year period.

Anthony S. Dix Jr., a trusted advisor in the office of Baltimore City Circuit Court Clerk Frank M. Conaway Sr., has pleaded guilty to forging a painkiller prescription and trying to fill it at a Pikesville Rite Aid last August.
After hearing from both Dix and his lawyer that the incident was an exception in an otherwise law-abiding life, Baltimore County District Judge Robert J. Steinberg sentenced the 53-year-old manager to probation before judgment for the misdemeanor, with the additional requirements that he must complete 40 hours of community service, submit to urinalysis and stay away from Rite Aid.
