CINCINNATI (AP) - A 1928 theater in downtown Cincinnati has received a $3 million makeover and is set for a grand reopening next month hosted by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and featuring a performance by the Cincinnati Pops.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports upgrades to the Taft Theatre include a $1.3 million eco-friendly air conditioning system, larger seats and increased restroom capacity. The theater also features wall murals, ceiling rosettes, crown moldings, terrazzo floors and some original, craftsman-style light fixtures.

He has performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, Sarasta Festival, Tanglewood, La Musica International Chamber Music Festival, and Musica@Menio. McGUl has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore and New Jersey Symphonies, as well as the Tokyo, Guarneri and Avalon quartets and Opus One. He was featured at Ravinia's Rising Stars series, toured with Musicians from Marlboro, performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as a member of its Chamber Music Society Two.

WOOSTER -- "Remembrance of Robin," a new work by Jack Gallagher, the Kettering Professor of Music at The College of Wooster, premiered June 9 at Werner Recital Hall of the Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music. The 11-minute work, for trumpet and piano, was performed by Robert Sullivan, Principal Trumpet of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Julie Spangler, pianist.
Remembrance of Robin" was commissioned by Sullivan in memory of his wife, an untimely victim of sarcoma. The program included music of Bernstein, Copland, and premieres by Eric Ewazen, Joseph Turrin, and Gallagher.

PORTLAND - Portland Ovations will present violinist Stefan Jackiw in recital at 7:30, Thursday, April 8, at Merrill Auditorium. Jackiw, one of his generation's most significant artists, will play an all Brahms program with pianist Max Levinson.
Jackiw has played with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony and the Russian National Orchestra, all within the last year. He also recently released his debut album of Brahms Sonatas on the Sony Classical label in Asia. He's been a notable performer on the world stage since he was 14, and now at age 24 he is gaining acclaim everywhere he plays.
