  • On a Tuesday afternoon, the traffic is thick and noisy along Olympic Boulevard near Carthay Circle just east of Beverly Hills. Inside the cool, dark recess of the Church of Our Saviour, however, all is silent. Nestled into a tiny triangle of space between Olympic Boulevard and Stearns and Carrillo drives, the tiny 1923 church is like an island sanctuary. At 6:30 p.m., the six parishioners inside fall silent to the sound of the traditional Sanctus bells as the Rev. Donald Ashman begins the evening service. Dressed in ornate vestments, the priest conducts a one-man service in traditional style.

  • EL MONTE - Hundreds of turkeys were given away Wednesday at Church of Our Saviour to help low-income families celebrate Thanksgiving. The turkeys, donated by San Gabriel Valley Water Company and Cal American Water Company, were given to various charitable organizations who will in turn distribute them to low-income families in the San Gabriel Valley, either as whole turkeys or part of cooked Thanksgiving dinners.

  • As parishioners filed into Church of Our Saviour on Sunday in Cocoa Beach, Fla., they tapped fists with the Rev. Sean Heslin, the exchange replacing the traditional handshake. With worries of seasonal flu and the H1N1 virus heightened this season, the Rev. Heslin and other religious leaders are making changes to limit the spread of germs. They're encouraging people to think twice about hugs and even handshakes, or temporarily stopping some practices.

  • The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia has filed lawsuits seeking to retain the property of 11 churches whose congregations voted to leave the denomination and prohibit those congregations from using the property, the diocese announced yesterday. The diocese filed 11 separate suits against the clergy and lay leaders of Truro Church in Fairfax, the Falls Church in Falls Church, Christ the Redeemer in Centreville, Church of the Apostles in Fairfax, Church of the Epiphany in Herndon, Church of Our Saviour near Leesburg, Church of the Word in Gainesville, Potomac Falls Church in Sterling, St. Margaret's in Woodbridge, St. Paul's in Haymarket and St. Stephen's in the Northern Neck.

  • SAN GABRIEL - Assemblyman Mike Eng, D-El Monte, is hosting a holiday meet-and-greet and toy collection Thursday for constituents to discuss legislative issues and help needy families. Participants are invited to bring toys from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to Church of Our Saviour, 535 West Roses Road.

  • Funeral Services for , age 93, will be held Monday, December 26, 2005 at 11 am at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, Trenton. Interment will follow in Mt of Olives Cemetery, Johnston. The family will receive friends at the gravesite at the conclusion of the service.
