  • Fiat's purchase of the government's ownership stake in Chrysler Group LLC resolves one thorny political issue. Another lies ahead: Where to base the combined company. Work already is under way to merge the two into one automaker. Fiat SpA is Italy's largest employer and a source of national pride, but it would be problematic for Chrysler to relocate to a foreign country after being saved by U.S. taxpayers.

  • Reed dealership to stay open Reed Brothers Automotive -- formerly Reed Brothers Dodge -- of Rockville said it intends to remain in business despite being among the 789 automotive dealers nationally that have been cut from the Chrysler dealer network. "When the Dodge signs come down," Reed Brothers "will continue to sell pre-owned vehicles, service and parts," the company said in its announcement. Its body repair shop will also remain open. Founded in 1915, the company calls itself "one of the oldest continuously family-owned and operated automotive dealerships in the United States.
