Some of the West's leading financial institutions, including (besides Citibank and Goldman Sachs) Barclays, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Dow Jones, HSBC Bank, Lloyd's, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and Standard & Poors have created "Sharia Advisory Boards," staffed with Islamic clerics and scholars, in order to help them bring their financial practices into line with Islamic norms. Christopher Holton, vice president of the Center for Security Policy, states that "America is losing the financial war on terror because Wall Street is embracing a subversive enemy ideology on one hand and providing corporate life support to state sponsors of terrorism on the other hand.

morris@wvgazette.com WEST Virginias public pensions may have hundreds of millions of dollars invested in companies doing business with terrorist-sponsoring countries. According to an analysis conducted for the Sunday Gazette-Mail, 55 stocks in state pension portfolios belong to companies that have ties to the governments of Iran, Libya, North Korea, Sudan or Syria. The U.S. State Department has designated all these countries as state sponsors of terrorism and barred U.S. businesses from conducting operations there, but foreign companies are under no such constraints. Among the companies in which West Virginia is invested are four big oil producer/ developers with extensive operations in rogue nations: Total Fina Elf of France, which for years has been developing oil fields in Sudan and ...

A national drive against citing "foreign" laws in U.S. courts - one that critics say is a veiled attack on Islamic Shariah law - has reached the state with the nation's largest concentration of Muslims.
The Michigan bill, which mirrors "American Laws for American Courts" legislation introduced in more than 20 other states, was introduced in June by state Rep. Dave Agema, Grandville Republican. He has argued that it has nothing to do with Islam or the faith's Koran-based Shariah law, but is designed to stop anyone who seeks to invoke a foreign law in state courts.

I'm not yet ready to suggest the use of military force... but one has to stay on alert that that time could come sooner rather than later," James Woolsey, who served briefly as former President Bill Clinton's CIA director, told an Ohio legislative committee this week in support of a bill that would ban investments by the state's pension funds in companies operating in Iran or in any other country the State Department lists as a slate sponsor of terrorism.
In his weekly column in the "Washington Times" published shortly after [William Reinsch] sent his letter, CSP's president, Frank Gaffney, denounced Reinsch as "Terror's lobbyist," charging that the NFTC "favors doing business with America's enemies and runs interference for those determined to do so.

HARRISBURG -- It's not every day that state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, a conservative Republican, and state Rep. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat from the Philadelphia suburbs, stand together on an issue.
They are pushing legislation that would require the state's two largest pension funds and the state Treasury Department to divest any holdings in companies that do business with countries identified by the State Department as terrorist regimes: Iran, Syria, North Korea, Cuba and Sudan.
